Forged Rings Facilities and Capabilities

STEEL IN YARD

  • We stock most grades of steel in our yard.
  • Steel grades are carefully stored according to material type and heat.

ROLLING MILLS

  • Four station ring rolling mills are used to produce a multiple of shapes.
  • Forged ring contours closely follow the shape of the finished ring.
  • Two back-up mills.

CUTTING MACHINES

  • Automatic abrasive cutting machines.
  • Automatic carbide saws.
  • Insures the dimensional uniformity of the final product.

SIZING PRESSES

  • Sizing Presses are used to provide closer dimensional control following ring rolling.

FORGING FURNACES

  • Forging furnaces are fueled by natural gas.
  • Back-up source of Propane.
  • Back-up furnace.
  • Furnaces are automatically controlled to maintain a close temperature range.
  • Temperatures are charted for each production run and maintained for future reference.

ANNEALING FURNACES

  • Rolled rings are heat treated to customer specification.

CLEANING EQUIPMENT

  • Rotoblast cleaning equipment is used to descale rolled or heat treated rings.

QUALITY CONTROL

  • Dimensional and hardness checks performed prior to shipment.

FORGING PRESSES

  • Variety of forging presses are available to preform the heated cut mults in three stages.

SHIPPING AREA

  • Inspected forged rings are palletized for shipment and staged in our shipping area

What we can do for you

An overall view of the production lines

1. Stronger Rings, Precision Uniformity Metallurgical analysis proves the superior mechanical properties induced in metals by combination forging-rolling. Flow lines are continuously even and follow the contours of the shape. The Grainflow created by rolling makes the rings far less subject to distortion in subsequent heat treating cycles.

2. Greater Versatility SRP's semi-automated ring mill products can be made from any forgeable material-types of carbon, alloy, stainless, high speed tool steel and the wide variety of aerospace metals. Rings are manufactured from 2 1/4" I.D. to 45" O.D. with a maximum width of 12" in rollable cross-sections with contours on I.D., O.D. or on both diameters.

3. Less Material Waste Hot ring rolling conserves material. Up to 94-96% of the cut mult material is used with only a small web punched from the preform wasted. Cross-section shapes are rolled close to finished contours resulting in less machining loss.

4. Less Machining, Easier Machining Roll in the shape . . . roll down the cost of machining. The close match of cross-section contours to the finished shape substantially reduces finishing costs.  Specialty Ring can provide the required machining.

5. Faster Production Preforms are continuously loaded onto the mill . . . and are rolled with completed cross-section contours. Less manpower, higher output and greater uniformity mean lower final costs.

6. Experienced Staff SRP's Technical Service Group is experienced in all phases of ring design and manufacture. We can offer suggestions regarding material selection and subsequent processing techniques based on the application of the final part.  Consultation with the Group during design stages will result in substantially reduced manufacturing and final finishing costs.

The Hot Line for Ring Production Our ring mills simplify the production of rolled seamless forged rings, combining the strength of forging with the special machining advantages of rolling. (SRP ROLLS QUALITY RINGS AT A SAVINGS.)

SRP is a member of the Forging Industry Association.
